The "Pending Memorial" proposal receives the 2nd prize

The Pending Memorial Project is about a creative critique and objection on the way the Ministry of Defense Cyprus, who was one of the major actors convicted in court responsible for the catastrophic accident, became responsible for the creation of a Memorial for the 13 people killed in that accident. Plus, the objection was that the memorial should not only for the 13 people killed but also for the destroyed landscape and of all Cypriot citizens who realized that the State Governing System has been incompetent to address such event that ended to the explosion. The objection was also on the fact that the process of remembering should only take place at the place of the explosion but within the public spaces of the cities plus within the function of the Cyprus State Governing System. All these were transposed into a design proposal by manipulating the competition's terms of reference

The Pending Memorial Project demonstrates eloquently the political dimension of any design proposal.
