Support Structures

AA & U operates across architecture, urbanism and support structures for the urban commons. It is a socially engaged spatial practice. Both the entanglement of scales and the heterogeneity of modalities yield a hybrid character to the practice. We organise the website in such a way as to demonstrate how each AA&U project provides examples of entanglements and complementarities of modalities. We aim to demonstrate our transversal approach through multiple web entries to the same project depending on the reader's priorities. Therefore, there are four entries: Urban, Architecture, Support Structures and Project Entry. The first three entries are supported by published articles. They either refer explicitly to the AA & U projects or have broader subjects, written by Socrates Stratis and other AA & U collaborators.

Support Structures:

The importance of the active agency of space and practice. AA&U's design processes bring forward the political dimension of the urban. The support structure's output can be a critical statement. They don’t have the power to considerable change, yet they point towards new alternatives. Through the ‘Support Structures’, the visual and performative arts are introduced into the ‘Urban’ and the ‘Architecture’.
